AceShowbiz - Oscar-winning "Moonlight" filmmaker Barry Jenkins is set to bring the life of choreographer Alvin Ailey to the big screen.

The writer and director will join producers Alicia Keys and Susan Lewis for the as-yet-untitled production, which was first announced by executives at Fox Searchlight in March (18).

Based on the book "Alvin Ailey: A Life in Dance", the film will follow the iconic performer's early life as a young boy growing up in rural Texas to his career milestones, such as founding the interracial Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City in 1958.

Ailey died at the age of 58 from AIDS-related complications.
