The 'Star Wars' actor refuses to name a replacement to play his archeologist character once he's unable to reprise the role in future movie, saying, 'When I'm gone, he's gone.'

AceShowbiz - Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones, and Indiana Jones is Harrison Ford. The 76-year-old actor, who has portrayed the fictional archeologist since 1981's film "Raiders of the Lost Ark", has made it clear that no one should replace him in the role, even when he's unable to do so.

Making an appearance on NBC's "Today" to talk about his new movie "The Secret Life of Pets 2" on Friday, May 24, the veteran movie star was asked who should replace him in future Indiana Jones movie(s) when he's done with the role. "Nobody is going to be Indiana Jones, don't you get it?" he told host Craig Melvin. "I'm Indiana Jones. When I'm gone, he's gone. It's easy," he added.

In the past, the was a rumor that Chris Pratt might lead the franchise in a potential reboot. When addressing speculation, Ford seemed to mix the "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor with another Chris in Hollywood, Chris Pine. "This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this. I'm sorry, man," he joked about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe star would take the news that he just told on the show, as people in the studio responded with audible laugh.

Ford previously rejected the idea that he passed the torch to Shia LaBeouf's Mutt Williams when the character was introduced in 2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". "What are you talking about? It's mine," he told Time in 2010 about the scene in which Mutt picked up Indy's fedora. "I would love to do another Indiana Jones movie. George Lucas is working on an idea now. Shia can get his own hat. I earned that hat."

Steven Spielberg, who directed all four films in the franchise, has confirmed that there would be "Indiana Jones V" with Ford reprising his role, though the project has been long in dormant. The director said in 2015 that he would not recast Indy. "I don't think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy, I don't think that's ever going to happen," he told ScreenDaily. "It's certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that's Harrison Ford."
