Many claim that 'true cowboys' won't wear the 'Old Town Road' collection, but the denim brand responds simply by stating that they have offered jeans for a variety of wearers since 1947.

AceShowbiz - Country music fans are threatening to boycott denim brand Wrangler over its new collaboration with Lil Nas X.

The company came under fire this week, begs May 20, after launching a denim collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X, which is inspired by his hit song, "Old Town Road", which features Billy Ray Cyrus on the remix. The collection features shorts and jeans bearing the song's lyrics, as well as an "Old Town Road" T-shirt and more.

According to New York Post's Page Six, country fans have begun a boycott of the American manufacturer, insisting "true cowboys" wouldn't consider wearing the new jeans - or listen to Lil Nas X.

"This is how you lose customers," wrote one person on Instagram, while another added: "Went from cowboys to rappers."

Last year denim brand Levi also came under fire on social media due to its stance on gun control.

User @thomasoftheyear said, "If you have any sense, you'll stop production and burn what's left...I don't buy anything made by Levi's after their gun control stance. I'll stop buying Wranglers just as quick for this nonsense."

Those who support the collaboration have called the row "racist", with some social media users blaming the controversy on "white people" and "rednecks."

"Never seen so many ppl upset abt something positive....If you don't want to buy them DON'T‼️.....at the end of the day this company is going to make money regardless (sic)," wrote one Instagram user who defended the collaboration.

"Thank you for branching out with something different with your Wrangler Jeans line," tweeted another fan. "White folks don't know the company that that owns Wrangler, owns alot of other clothing lines that black folks wear. P.S, black folks wear wranglers (sic)."
