Multiple online petitions have been launched to replace the 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' actor should he be tapped to play the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' movie.

AceShowbiz - It's not official yet that Robert Pattinson will be the new Batman, but news about his potential casting in Matt Reeves' "The Batman" has faced strong opposition. Soon after reports emerged that the British actor is the top choice to play the DC superhero in the upcoming movie, multiple petitions have surfaced online asking to remove Pattinson from the project.

One petition launched on Change.org warns Warner Bros., "Don't make the Batfleck mistake again. Don't do it. For the love of all that is holy, stop trashing the DC Universe," referring to Ben Affleck who played the role in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League".

Another DC fan hopes to thwart the plans of casting the "Twilight Saga" movie series actor for "The Batman". "There's no way Robert Pattinson should play Batman. This is a complete joke! This would be the worst casting ever for the dark knight," the said fan argued.

A third petitioner is campaigning on behalf of Armie Hammer, who was once also rumored to be eyed for the role. "To cast Robert Pattinson or anyone other than Armie Hammer at this point would be a joke," he states.

Some people also took to Twitter to share their reactions to the casting reports. "Robert Pattinson as #TheBatman?! Jesus wept, what a terrible choice," one wrote. Another added, "I cannot believe that the foot aka Rober Pattinson is gonna be #TheBatman ugh."

Not all, however, oppose to the idea. One fan responded to the news, "Interesting.... I'm not mad. Interesting." Another believes the 33-year-old star has the skill and quality to play the character, "Robert pattinson is a good actor nobody had a problem with him being cast in Nolan's next big film so why isn't he good enough for #TheBatman ?"

Another similarly said of the actor, "LET'S GOOOO. Robert Pattinson is one of the best working actors today. Anyone who replies negatively to this news is still stuck on the 10 year old Twilight series and hasn't watched any of his work since." Someone else added, "Robert Pattinson Is A Terrific Actor He Would Make A Great Batman!"

Variety reported that Pattinson is close to landing the role and is currently in negotiations for the movie. Deadline, however, said that it's not been set just yet, and that "Dark Phoenix" and "Tolkien" star Nicholas Hoult is still in the running for the part.

Reeves' Batman movie will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne than he was in previous movies. The helmer previously shared his vision for the upcoming movie, saying, "It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He's supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been."

He added, "I'd love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it's going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation."
