A lot of casualties happen in the fifth episode of 'Game of Thrones' season 8 as Daenerys are going head-to-head against Cersei Lannister and her army in King's Landing for the Last War.

AceShowbiz - "Game of Thrones" aired its penultimate episode of the eighth and final season on Sunday, May 12. The episode picked up after Cersei Lannister officially declared war against Daenerys Targaryen by beheading Missandei in front of Dany, Jon Snow and others.

[SPOILER ALERT!] The fifth episode opened with Varys writing a letter to someone about Jon Snow's real identity and the truth of him being the true heir of the Iron Throne. Jon Snow arrived in Dragonstone and was greeted by Varys when he was about to see Dany.

Varys told him what Cersei said back in season 2, telling him that every time a Targaryen was born, the gods flipped a coin. When Jon asked him what he wanted, Varys said that he wanted "the right ruler on the Iron Throne." Yet again, Jon emphasized that he didn't want the throne and would stay loyal to Dany.

Meanwhile, Dany told Tyrion that she knew "somone has betrayed me." She said it was Jon, while Tyrion said Varys. However, it was back to Jon who told Sansa about his identity as Aegon Targaryen despite Dany's plea. Tyrion also admitted that it was his mistake telling Varys.

Before heading to his execution, Varys burned the letter he previously wrote. Varys was sentenced to death but he didn't seem to be afraid to die. "I hope I'm wrong," Varys said regarding his feelings about Jon vs. Dany before Dany burned him alive. Upon Varys' death, Jon was seen looking at Dany as if she just made a questionable decision.

Later, Dany prepared the attack to King's Landing with Tyrion begging her not to kill innocent people. He asked Dany if she would call off the attack once she heard them ring the bells. But instead, Dany told Tyrion that Jaime was stopped from heading back to King's Landing. She threatened Tyrion if he failed her again, it would be the last time for him. But not even Dany's threat stopped Tyrion from helping Jaime with the help from Davos.

Tyrion asked Jaime to ring the bells and open the gates of King's Landing in hope to prevent a massacre of innocent lives. Freeing Jaime was Tyrion's way of returning the favor as the former once helped him when he was young. "If it weren't for you, I never would have survived my childhood," Tyrion told his brother. The two then shared a hug which probably would be the last.

Meanwhile in the north, The Hound and Arya Stark met allied forces and got inside the gates before they were closed. Jaime, meanwhile, failed to get inside though he was still trying to find another way inside.

The war started as Dany and Drogon dodging arrows from Euron Greyjoy and the rest of the Iron Fleet. After destroying Euron's ship, she flew to King's Landing and burned many of Cersei's soldiers alive. Dany and Drogon attacked The Golden Company from behind, while Grey Worm easily killed Harry Strickland. It didn't take long before King's Landing was crumbling before Cersei's eyes. Qyburn told her that all the scorpions, Iron Fleet and the Golden Company had been destroyed, but she believed that the Red Keep would stand still.

Tyrion saw Jaime almost making it to the bells, but Dany and Drogon were also nearby. Meanwhile, the rest of Cersei's men surrendered by dropping their swords. After a moment, everyone heard the bells ring. Dany was supposed to stop the attack but she kept going towards the Red Keep and burned everyone alive.

That was when chaos ensued as Grey Worm and the Unsullied didn't want to stop killing Cersei's soldiers. Jaime, meanwhile, was engaged in a brutal fight against Euron who stabbed him. But Jaime managed to get a sword and put it right into Euron's stomach. "I'm the man who killed Jaime Lannister," Euron said before he died.

The Hound asked Arya to go home once they were inside the ruined Red Keep. "If you come with me, you die here," The Hound told Arya. Arya thanked him before she walked away. The Hound then met The Mountain. While the two were fighting, Jaime came to Cersei. The Hound and The Mountain continued their brutal fight. When The Mountain seemed to be getting the best of The Hound, the latter lunged for his brother and they fell into the burning flames of King's Landing together.

Arya, who managed to escape from the Red Keep, witnessed how many of innocent people bled and died because of Dany's attack. When she was about to help a group of people, a woman and her child among the group were burned alive. Arya was also consumed by the flames, but it wasn't enough to kill her. She spotted a horse and rode off on it.

Cersei told Jaime that she wanted her baby alive when they arrived at the bottom of the Red Keep. "Nothing else matters. Only us," Jaime said to Cersei as the world crumbled around them. That was how the siblings died together.

The preview of final episode of "Game of Thrones" season 8, meanwhile, features a scene of Daenerys walking in what seems like a victory. Tyrion doesn't look happy and rather mad, while Arya is seen among the soldiers with blood covering her face.

Series finale of "Game of Thrones" will arrive on May 19 at 9 P.M. on HBO.
