Taylor Swift Slammed After Billboard Music Awards for Allegedly Copying Beyonce's Coachella Set

Taylor's performance, which opened with a marching band before she appeared onstage, is compared to Beyonce's Coachella performance which was a salute to historically black college and universities.

AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift definitely pulled great efforts to prepare for her debut performance of "ME!" at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, but not all were impressed by it. Following the Wednesday, May 1 show, the country-turned-pop superstar is slammed on Twitter for allegedly ripping off Beyonce Knowles' Coachella set.

Swift's performance with Brendon Urie opened with a marching band before she came out onstage, strutting her stuff and striking a pose. Beyonce's fans immediately noticed similarities with the "Formation" singer's Coachella set, which started with a whistle blow at the beginning to the marching band intro.

Beyonce turned her performance into a "Homecoming" celebration, which was dedicated to pay tribute to HBCUs (historically black college and universities). "When I decided to do Coachella, instead of me pulling out my flower crown, it was more important that I brought our culture to Coachella," she said in Netflix's documentary "Homecoming: A Film by Beyonce". "I always dreamed of going to an HBCU. My college was Destiny's Child. My college was traveling around the world, and life was my teacher."

Following Taylor's performance, Bey's fans took to social media and accused the 29-year-old singer of copying the R&B diva's set. "Stop being daft with this Beyonce/Taylor drumline thing. Yes, artists have incorporated marching bands/drumlines in performances before but TIMING is everything. The world has been BUZZING since #Homecoming. This ain't no coincidence," freelance writer Wanna Thompson wrote on Twitter.

Another commented, "I don't know if y'all are seeing this but Taylor Swift is gentrifying Beyonce's Coachella performance right now." Someone else chimed in, "Someone kindly tell Taylor Swift, she will never be Beyonce. Please stop biting... it's embarrassing."

Some others, however, have come to Taylor's defense. "I'm not Taylor Swift's biggest fan by any means, but saying she ripped off Beyonce?? Come on. Talk about a reach. People look for drama," said one Twitter user. Another added, "I AM SICK AND TIRED OF YOU ALL ATTACKING @taylorswift13 HER PERFORMANCE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH BEYONCE. LEAVE TAYLOR ALONE. SHE JUST WANTS TO BE F***ING HAPPY OMFG YALL ARE TRASH."

Someone else argued, "Girl, it's drums... Beyonce wasn't the first to use drums in a performance and Taylor definitely isn't either. Beyonce had a whole as band and Taylor had just drums. Y'all need to stop comparing the most general things just because you don't like Taylor." Another similarly said, "I can't believe that twitter has gotten to the point where people are comparing Beyonce and Taylor's drum lines.. so Taylor used drums, lots of people do big whoop.. I love Bey but this really isn't THAT big of a deal."

Neither Taylor nor Beyonce has responded to the buzz regarding the similarities of their performances.
