The paranormal investigator, who is portrayed by Vera Farmiga in the horror film franchise, 'died peacefully in her sleep' at 92 years old, her grandson and son-in-law confirm.

AceShowbiz - Lorraine Warren, whose life story with her husband Ed became an inspiration for James Wan's "The Conjuring" movie series, has passed away at 92. On Friday, April 19, her grandson Chris McKinnell and son-in-law Tony Spera announced that the paranormal investigator "died peacefully in her sleep" on Thursday, April 18.

"Last night my grandmother, Lorraine Warren, quietly and peacefully left us to join her beloved Ed," Chris posted on Facebook along with pictures of his grandmother at her younger ages. "She was happy and laughing until the very end. She was my angel and my hero, and she will be deeply missed. Please join us in celebrating her life and honoring her beautiful soul. Remember to treasure those you love while you can. Thank you and God bless you all."

Her son-in-law Tony announced the sad news through the Facebook page of the New England Society for Psychic Research, which Lorraine and her late husband Ed founded in 1952. "It is with deep sadness that I must announce that Lorraine Warren has passed away. She died peacefully in her sleep at home last night," he wrote. "The family requests that you respect their privacy at this time."

The statement continued to read, "Lorraine touched many lives and was loved by so many. She was a remarkable, loving, compassionate and giving soul. To quote Will Rogers, she never met a person she didn't like. She was an avid animal lover and contributed to many animal charities and rescues. She was wonderful and giving to her entire family. May God Bless her."

"The Conjuring" stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson soon took to social media to react to Lorraine's passing. The actress, who portrays Lorraine in the horror film franchise, wrote, "My dear friend Lorraine Warren has passed. From my deep feeling of sorrow, a deep feeling of gratitude emerges. I was so blessed to have known her and am honored to portray her. She lived her life in grace and cheerfulness. She wore a helmet of salvation, she dawned her sword of compassion, and took a shield of faith. Righteousness was her breastplate, and she has touched my life so. Love you Lorraine. You're waltzing with Ed now."

Patrick added on his own social media page, "i'm very heartbroken, and sad to hear of the passing of the one and only, beautiful, Lorraine Warren, today (and it's close to easter, too) thank you for everything you've given to this world at least, now you can be reunited with Ed, up there My heart goes out to her family, and close friends. May she Rest In Peace #RIPLorraineWarren."

Warren was a professed clairvoyant and a light trance medium who worked closely with her husband. Together, they were associated with prominent cases of hauntings and possessions. Their real-life cases became the inspiration for "The Conjuring" film series starring Vera as Lorraine and Patrick as Ed.

Lorraine served as a consultant for the first "Conjuring" film released in 2013 and made a cameo appearance in the film. Their cases also were subjects of films The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut. Ed died in 2006.
