AceShowbiz - Camila Cabello is venturing out to the big screen. The Cuban-American singer, who rose to prominence as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, is set to make her acting debut in a new iteration of the classic fairytale "Cinderella (2021)".
The 22-year-old pop star is tapped to play the titular princess in the upcoming movie, which is set up at Sony's Columbia label. In addition to starring, she will be involved in the music for the film.
The project is based on an original idea from CBS' "The Late Late Show" host James Corden, who is producing the film with Leo Pearlman under their Fulwell73 shingle. "Pitch Perfect" scribe and "Blockers" director Kay Cannon is on board as writer and director for the reimagined movie.
According to Deadline, the project is currently put on the fast track for production. Other details about the pic are currently unknown. But taking cue from Corden's comedic route and his successful musical segments on his talk show, the new "Cinderella" movie will likely be in the vein of Disney's 2014 musical fantasy movie "Into the Woods", which was directed by Rob Marshall and starring Corden among the A-list cast ensemble.
Camila joined Fifth Harmony, which was formed on U.S. reality show "The X Factor", in 2012. The group enjoyed success with their hit singles like "Worth It" and "Work from Home", but Camila left the group in late 2016 to pursue her solo career. She has since released her debut solo studio album "Camila" (2018), which spanned hit songs like "Havana" and "Never Be the Same".
The last "Cinderella" movie was released in 2015 from Disney. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, it starred "Downton Abbey" alum Lily James as the titular character, with "Game of Thrones" alum Richard Madden as the Prince.
