Shortly after it was announced that he has been rehired for the third 'Guardians' movie, the ex-husband of Jenna Fischer expresses gratitude to those who have supported him.

AceShowbiz - Filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed he is back in the director's chair for the third "Guardians of the Galaxy" film following his dismissal last summer (2018).

Disney bosses let him go when old tweets he posted, making light of paedophilia and rape, resurfaced.

The movie chiefs initially ignored fan requests to reinstate Gunn, but following months of negotiations, the director was officially re-hired on Friday, March 15.

"I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months," Gunn tweeted on Friday, shortly after the news broke via Deadline. "I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be."

"I deeply appreciate Disney's decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all."

Gunn is currently set to write and direct Warner Bros' "Suicide Squad" sequel. He will complete that project before returning to the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise.

He was also the writer and director of the previous two "Guardians" films.
