Picked up by Lifetime, 'Patsy & Loretta' is based on the untold true story of the friendship between the 'Crazy' hitmaker and the 'Coal Miner's Daughter' singer.

AceShowbiz - Broadway stars Megan Hilty and Jessie Mueller are teaming up to turn Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn's friendship into a new TV movie.

"Patsy & Loretta" will mark Neil Meron's first solo project since the passing of his longtime producing partner Craig Zadan.

The film, picked up by bosses at Lifetime, will debut later this year, with "Thelma & Louise" writer Callie Khouri behind the camera.

The shoot will begin in Nashville, Tennessee later this month.

The project also reteams Meron and Hilty, who previously worked together on TV musical series "Smash".

"Patsy & Loretta" is based on the untold true story of the friendship between two of country music's greatest stars.

According to a press release, Cline was "already one of the biggest stars in country music when she first met newcomer Loretta, and took her under her wing to help her make it in Nashville". They quickly became close friends, "touring together and bonding over their husband troubles".

Patsy, who will be portrayed by Hilty, died in a plane crash in 1963, while Loretta (Mueller) has become the First Lady of Country Music.

This will be Mueller's second role as an icon - she portrayed Carole King on Broadway in "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical".

Meanwhile, Khouri is not new to the world of country music - she created hit TV drama "Nashville" and directed 17 episodes.
