Fans of the No. 1 sitcom are also feeling emotional now that they have to bid farewell to the series soon.

AceShowbiz - CBS has announced when the final episode of "The Big Bang Theory" will air. The last episode of the long-running comedy is set to arrive on May 16 on the network.

For the final episode of the fan-favorite series, CBS is treating fans to a full hour episode. "We're going out with a BANG! Don't miss the 1 hour series finale of The #BigBangTheory on May 16 at 8/7c!" the official Twitter account of the series wrote.

Following the announcement, star Johnny Galecki (Leonard) took to his Instagram account to share his feelings about the final hour.

"273 episodes filmed. 26 days left on the Big Bang stage. 6 episodes to be filmed. 66 days until the 1 hour finale airs," so he wrote in the caption alongside a collage photo of him with his co-stars. "All VERY surreal. Much (heart emoji) to all the fans."

Fans were also feeling emotional now that they had to bid farewell to the series. "Going to miss you all so much. I've met my husband, gotten married and had children all around the same time these moments were happening on the show," one fan commenter wrote in the comment section. "Thankful for reruns, although I know them word for word," one other added.

Prior to the announcement, the producers hinted at how they would wrap the story of the No. 1 sitcom on broadcast TV. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon on the series, meanwhile, shared that "one of my wishes for the final episode" was that the elevator would be fixed. "The elevator gets fixed, at least for a minute, and then we all get stuck in it," he said jokingly.

Co-star Kaley Cuoco (Penny) loved the idea. "It would be a great show ending for me!" she said. As for Johnny, he just hoped the final episode included lots of emotional moments, because "none of us are going to be able to keep from crying during the last taping. We've got to justify it in the writing somehow."
