Coming on board the Apple series, Taika Waititi is tapped to co-write and direct the pilot as well as to serve as executive producer alongside the '12 Monkeys' director.

AceShowbiz - "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi has boarded the TV series adaptation of Terry Gilliam's cult 1981 film "Time Bandits".

Waititi will co-write and direct the pilot for the potential Apple series, while he will also serve as executive producer, alongside Gilliam.

Apple bosses snapped up the rights to turn the fantasy into a TV series last year (2018).

Gilliam's original followed an 11 year old's time travel adventures with six dwarfs, who steal a map that charts all the holes in the space-time fabric, allowing the merry band to jump from one historical era to the next.
