Subtly denying that his acceptance speech at the 2019 Academy Awards was a 'racist hit on' the president, the 'BlacKkKlansman' director says, 'No one's going for that.'

AceShowbiz - Spike Lee has responded after Donald Trump accused him of delivering a racist hit on his presidency with his acceptance speech during the 91st annual Academy Awards. When asked about the president's tweet, the writer/director seems to refuse to give much attention to the narrative that Trump is going to make with his comment.

"Well, it's okee-doke, you know," he tells Entertainment Weekly with a shrug. "They change the narrative." Not surprised by it though, Lee adds, "They did the same thing with the African-American players who were kneeling, trying to make it into an anti-American thing, an anti-patriotic thing, and an anti-military thing. But no one's going for that."

Lee got political in his speech when winning his first Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on "BlacKkKlansman", but never mentioned Trump. "We will have love and wisdom when we regain our humanity. It will be a powerful moment," he said onstage.

Calling on America to mobilize for the 2020 election, he told the audience and viewers at home, "The 2020 presidential election is around the corner. Let's all mobilize. Let's all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let's do the right thing!"

Trump then slammed Lee for his speech, tweeting on Monday, "Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!"

Lee, meamwhile, used his social media account to reveal his next project. On Monday, he posted a video on Instagram to tell his fans that he's moving on from "BlacKkKlansman" and is heading to Thailand to film his new movie "Da 5 Bloods" starring Chadwick Boseman.

"BlacKkKlansman, that's over," he said in the video. "Like Jay-Z says, onto the next."
