While the 'If Beale Street Could Talk' actress escapes unscathed, statistician David Fried isn't as lucky and appears to take a right leg to his face.

AceShowbiz - Regina King was really close to end up in a hospital. The Oscar nominee was watching the Knicks take on Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden, New York on Wednesday, February 13 when she nearly collided with player Joel Embiid.

Embiid, a 7-foot, 250-pound center, was going airbone in the third quarter of the game to save a loose ball from going out of bounds. Unfortunately for him, he was unable to regain control and crashed into a group of spectators and leaped straight over King's head, barely avoiding her. Tracy Morgan was also in the vicinity of the collision.

While both King and Morgan escaped unscathed, statistician David Fried wasn't as lucky. The man appeared to take a right leg to the face, though he immediately proceeded to get up after the incident. Even though he didn't suffer any major injuries, he would likely have bruises here and there.

Later on, King took to Twitter to express her gratefulness for escaping the incident as well as thanked Embiid for not crashing into her. "Yoooo. Thank you God and @JoelEmbiid for your athletic abilities. Crisis adverted," she said in response to a video of the incident.

Embiid himself has offered an apology to the statistician whom he crashed. "First of all, I shouldn't have done that," he said. "It's a regular-season game. I think at that point we were up by 15 points or so. So, that's my fault. Maybe next time, I do that I shouldn't try to land with my feet first. But, I'm so sorry."

Fried, meanwhile, revealed that it wasn't the first time he collided with a player, though no one was as big as Embiid. "As soon as he was coming, I said, 'Oh, no.' You knew it was going to happen," he recalled. "It was nothing I could do. You know it hurt for a second. He made sure to miss Regina King, which was pretty good on his part, but I'm OK."
