AceShowbiz - Drake's speech when he accepted Best Rap Song award at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 10 made a whole lot of buzz on internet. Not only because his appearance at the big night of music industry was surprising enough, but he also seemed to diss Grammys in his speech before it was cut short.
The 32-year-old Canadian rapper talked about how all of his fellow musicians were already winners as long as people sing along to their songs. "You don't need this right here, I promise you, you already won," the "God's Plan" hitmaker said, referring to this trophy. He was then heard saying, "But--," before the mic cut off and it moved to a commerical.
Following the snub, fans were left confused what was actually happening. Some even wondered if it had something to do with his sneaky diss at the award-giving event. However, the Recording Academy explained in a statement that it was not the case.
A spokesperson for the Academy revealed that the abrupt ending of the "In My Feelings" spitter's was only a misunderstanding on the part of the producers. "During Drake's speech there was a natural pause during his speech and at that moment the producers did assume that he was done and then cut to commercial," the statement read.
The Academy also added that "the producers did speak with Drake following his speech and did offer him to come back on stage to finish whatever his thoughts were." However, Drake allegedly "said he was happy with what he said and didn't have anything to add too it, so just a point of clarification."
Drake won the award for Best Rap Song for his song "God's Plan". He took to Instagram to flaunt his victory, sharing a photo of the envelope featuring his name as the winner for the category. "Too raw for a TV," so he captioned the snap.
