The former star of 'The Sopranos' will be seen as General Ardmore in director James Cameron's 'Avatar 2', which is planned to hit the theaters in December 2020, and its follow-ups.

AceShowbiz - Former "The Sopranos" star Edie Falco has joined the cast of the "Avatar" sequels.

The actress will play General Ardmore in James Cameron's upcoming films.

Her casting was announced by the director and producer Jon Landau via the Avatar Twitter page on Wednesday, February 06.

"We are thrilled to share that Edie Falco is joining the #AvatarFamily as General Ardmore, the Commander in charge of the RDA's interests in the Avatar Sequels!" the duo wrote.

Cameron took to Twitter back in November to post a video update from the set of the much-anticipated sequels, stating: "Behind me you can see our performance-capture stage. Today we're capturing some stunt scenes... but our principal cast are all wrapped: Sam (Worthington), Zoe (Saldana), Sigourney (Weaver), Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet."

"They're done now but they gave us incredible performances, and I can't tell you how proud I am of the work that they did on these films."

Winslet didn't appear in 2009's "Avatar" but previously worked with the director on blockbuster "Titanic". She will be portraying a character called Ronal in the sequels.

"She plays a character who's part of the Sea People, the reef people," Cameron told Vanity Fair magazine, revealing she wanted to take on all her water stunts for the role: "The one thing she did do is demand that she do all her own water work," he explained. "I said, 'All right, that's fine, we'll have to teach you how to free dive'."

"Avatar 2", the first of four planned sequels, is set for release in December, 2020, followed by "Avatar 3" a year later.
