Netflix and 'Bird Box' Writer to Join Forces for 'Shadow and Bone' Series

For the new project, the streaming giant has enlisted some crazy talents including Eric Heisserer ('Bird Box') and Shawn Levy ('Stranger Things').

AceShowbiz - Grishaverse is heading to Netflix. The streaming giant has orderd an eight-episode series titled "Shadow and Bone". It is set to be based on Leigh Bardugo's best-selling novels "Shadow and Bone" and "Six of Crows" which both jointly take place in the Grishaverse.

For the new project, Netflix has enlisted some crazy talents including Eric Heisserer, who is fresh off of his hit movie "Bird Box". Heisserer has been tapped to create and write the script for "Shadow and Bone" in addition to serving as showrunner. Joining him for the new series is "Stranger Things" executive producer Shawn Levy, who will executive produce under his 21 Laps banner.

Pouya Shahbazian, whose credits include the "Divergent" movie series, is also set to executive produce. Other executive producers are Bardugo as well as Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry for 21 Laps.

The official logline for "Shadow and Bone" reads, "In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive."

"Shadow and Bone", which serves as the first novel of Bardugo's trilogy that additionally included 2013's "Siege and Storm" and 2014's "Ruin and Rising", was published in 2012. It chronicles a story of Alina Starkov, a teenager who uncovers her own unique Grisha power.

Bardugo then followed it up with a duology that consisted of "Six of Crows" and "Crooked Kingdom". His next book in her Grishaverse, titled "King of Scars", is scheduled to hit the shelves later this month.

"Shadow and Bone" marks the reunion between Heisserer and 21 Laps. The two previously worked together on 2016 sci-fi feature "Arrival".
