The official logline for "Shadow and Bone" reads, "In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive."
"Shadow and Bone", which serves as the first novel of Bardugo's trilogy that additionally included 2013's "Siege and Storm" and 2014's "Ruin and Rising", was published in 2012. It chronicles a story of Alina Starkov, a teenager who uncovers her own unique Grisha power.
Bardugo then followed it up with a duology that consisted of "Six of Crows" and "Crooked Kingdom". His next book in her Grishaverse, titled "King of Scars", is scheduled to hit the shelves later this month.
"Shadow and Bone" marks the reunion between Heisserer and 21 Laps. The two previously worked together on 2016 sci-fi feature "Arrival".
