The wife of King Abdullah addresses the issue in a rare statement, which dubs the overspending claim is 'an effort to build a false public opinion.'

AceShowbiz - Queen Rania of Jordan has set the record straight on rumors regarding the cost of her wardrobe. On Wednesday, January 2, the Office of the 48-year-old royal issued a rare statement on Facebook, addressing claims of overspending brought up by a number of fashion-related bloggers.

"Over the years, there has been a lot of talk about Her Majesty's spending on clothing," the statement read. "In recognition of Her Majesty's interest in making the facts accessible to all to build their thoughts and opinions on them - positive or negative - we have decided to clarify some details on this subject."

The Office further noted that the wife of King Abdullah "has consistently maintained a balance" between representing Jordan properly and the moderation of spending. "The vast majority of her majesty's clothing is either loaned to her by the role of fashion, or presents as gifts, or purchased at reduced preferential rates, while the blogs in her estimates are based on the 'market value' which creates the wrong impression and contrary to reality," it clarified.

Acknowledging that accusations at the wastefulness by wives of leaders in many countries have been exploited as a historical political tool, the Office added, "Today, we see some in Jordan adopting this approach to portray Her Majesty the Queen as far from reality, far from the truth. So they may reject this clarification and question it in principle, in an effort to build a false public opinion."

The Office additionally noted that Queen Rania "is aware of the criticisms that have been circulating." It went on to conclude, "We realize that this explanation may be out of the ordinary, but in the absence of facts, rumors and false information are spreading and the wrong impressions accumulate, so we put these details in your hands."
