A publishers at Random House Children's Books has confirmed that Audrey Geisel passed away at her California home at the age of 97.

AceShowbiz - The widow of famed children's author Dr. Seuss has died.

Audrey Geisel, who oversaw her late husband's literary estate, passed away "peacefully" at her California home on Wednesday, December 19, aged 97, according to a publishers at Random House Children's Books.

Following the 1991 death of Dr. Seuss, real name Theodor Geisel, Audrey set up Dr. Seuss Enterprises to deal with his various creations and develop new projects, such as the 2000 launch of the Seussical show on Broadway, a family musical based on the whimsical writer's beloved books, including "Horton Hears a Who!" and "The Cat In The Hat".

She also helped to produce screen adaptations of Theodor's work, serving as an executive producer on the recent interpretation of "The Grinch", featuring the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch.
