In announcing the new achievement in television honor, HFPA President Meher Tatna expresses profound gratitude to the five-time Globes winner for her contributions.

AceShowbiz - Veteran actress Carol Burnett will be honoured with an inaugural special achievement award at the Golden Globes next month (January 2019).

The Carol Burnett Award will be presented annually to industry trailblazers, and the comedienne will be the first to lift her namesake trophy on 6 January.

"For more than 50 years, comedy trailblazer Carol Burnett has been breaking barriers while making us laugh," Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Meher Tatna says. "She was the first woman to host a variety sketch show, 'The Carol Burnett Show'. She was also the first woman to win both the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and Kennedy Center Honors."

"And now we add another first to her running list: the first recipient - and namesake - of the new Golden Globe top honour for achievement in television, the Carol Burnett Award. We are profoundly grateful for her contributions to the entertainment industry and honoured to celebrate her legacy forever at the Golden Globes."

In addition to her Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and Kennedy Center Honors, Burnett has also won five Golden Globe Awards.
