The new footage teases that the final battle between ice and fire and they are about to collide.

AceShowbiz - One epic battle is about to come in the upcoming eighth and final season of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones". The network has released a teaser trailer for the most-anticipated season for your viewing pleasure.

Dropped on Thursday, December 6, the short footage teases that the final battle between ice and fire and they are about to collide. Backed with a daunting music, the teaser opens with ice spreading from the North, freezing a Stark direworlf and a Targaryen dragon before going all the way to the city of King's Landing.

However, before it reaches the city, it meets fire which seems to symbolize House of Lannister as fire can be seen encompassing the House's signature lion. The fire and ice appear to collide in the middle, forming a new barrier that erupts between them.

The teaser makes an obvious reference to "A Song of Ice and Fire", the original title of author George R.R. Martin's book series on which the TV show is based. Beyond that, it's hard to decipher the teaser. However, one thing for sure is that in the final season, Daenerys Targaryen and the Starks will face The Night King and his army of White Walkers who had destroyed the wall and is marching to Westeros.

"Game of Thrones" is slated to return for the final season in April next year. Fans are reacting positively to the premiere date as it means the show is back to its traditional release period as the majority of its past seasons also premiered in April.

While fans now know that season 8 of "Game of Thrones" will premiere April next year, the specific premiere date is currently unknown. It is expected that a full-length trailer will arrive around February.

The final season will feature returning stars Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark and Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark.
