Words are Zatanna Zatara will join Supergirl and Batgirl as DC's female superheroes who are getting their own movies.

AceShowbiz - Zatanna Zatara could be the next DC Comics' superhero who is gracing the big screen. According to a new report from Deadline, there has been talk at Warner Bros. about a feature film adaptation of the comic book character.

While details of the project are not available, it is said that the "Zatanna" movie as well as the planned adaptations of Supergirl and Batgirl are on DC's slate of potential future films. They are joining the list of DC's upcoming female-centric superhero movies like "Wonder Woman 1984" and "Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)".

Following the success of Patty Jenkins-directed "Wonder Woman", these superheroine films will likely take higher ranks on Warner Bros.' priority list than male-hero movies like the long-gestating Flash solo film and a new Superman installment.

In the comic books, Zatanna is a descendant of Leonard da Vinci who works as a successful stage magician prior to discovering her magical abilities. While investigating the mysterious disappearance of her father Giovanni Zatara, she finds out that he is a member of the mystical Homo Magi race. Like her father, she has many powers relating to magic, typically controlled by speaking the words of her incantations spelled backwards.

At this stage, it's not clear how far the "Zatanna" movie is taking shape in the development process and it's possible that the film may never see the light of day as it's just one of many projects that the studio is considering.

The next DC female superhero movie, "Wonder Woman 1984", is scheduled for a June 5, 2020 release in the United States. Gal Gadot reprises her role as Diana Prince a.k.a. the title character, with Chris Pine returning as Steve Trevor, and Kristen Wiig playing the villainous Cheetah.

Meanwhile, "Birds of Prey" has Margot Robbie reprising her "Suicide Squad" role as Harley Quinn, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez and Ella Jay Basco taking other key roles. It will be directed by Cathy Yan, while Christina Hodson writes the script. Production is expected to begin soon for a July 2, 2020 release in the U.S.
