The streaming service, however, assures that 'the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come.'

AceShowbiz - Daredevil's fate follows in the steps of his fellow The Defenders members. After canceling "Marvel's Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage", Netflix and Marvel pull the plug on "Daredevil" after three seasons.

"Marvel's 'Daredevil' will not return for a fourth season on Netflix," the streaming giant announced in a statement shared with Deadline. "We are tremendously proud of the show's last and final season and although it's painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note."

"We're thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show's writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we're grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years," the statement added.

The streaming service, however, assures that "the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come." In addition, Netflix hints at bigger projects for the character. "The Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel," it said.

It remains to be seen whether Netflix is referring to some cameo appearance of Cox's Daredevil. Some fans speculate that Marvel may be planning to develop another Daredevil series on the upcoming Disney streaming platform, Disney Plus.

The third and final season of "Daredevil” premiered just last month. Also starring Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, "Daredevil" debuted in 2015. Its spin-off "The Punisher", starring Jon Bernthal as the titular character, debuted last year and is set to return for a sophomore season.

With the cancellation, "Marvel's Jessica Jones" is the only remaining series of the four heroes who comprise the crossover supergroup on "Marvel's The Defenders". "Marvel's Jessica Jones" had been picked up for a third season, though Netflix has yet to announce the premiere date.
