AceShowbiz - The 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards have set its premiere date. The much-anticipated award-giving event will return to its usual slot time on FOX.
The network is slated to bring the live telecast of the big event on Sunday, September 22 at 8 P.M. ET/5 P.M. PT after it aired on Monday night this year. The upcoming event will take place at the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, California. It has not been announced who will serve as the host and producers for the 2019 Emmy awards. It's widely speculated that Tim Allen will be taking the honor.
The 2019 Primetime Emmy marks the first Emmy of eight in a new deal between the Big Four networks (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) and the TV Academy. It is also the first time for Emmy to be broadcast on FOX after it was acquitted by Disney.
The 70th Annual Emmy Award previously aired on NBC on Monday, September 2017. Hosted by "Saturday Night Live" duo Michael Che and Colin Jost, the 2018 Emmys saw Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" making a breakthrough by coming out as one of the biggest winners with eight trophies. The Rachel Brosnahan-starring comedy snatched the coveted awards for comedy writing, comedy directing and comedy series. It also earned Brosnahan a trophy for lead comedy actress category and a trophy for supporting comedy actress category for co-star Alex Borstein.
Also coming out as a big winner was HBO's mega-hit "Game of Thrones". The cult series walked away with nine trophies, seven Creative Arts awards, including fantasy/sci-fi costumes, special visual effects and stunt coordination for a drama and drama series. Peter Dinklage was honored with best supporting actor.
Nominations for the upcoming Emmy Awards will be revealed in mid-July in 2019. It will be the last Emmy with "Game of Thrones" and "Veep" as the two series are slated to wrap up their stories next year.
