During an appearance on 'The Talk', the actor husband of Catherine Zeta-Jones reveals how the Academy Award-winning director pushed him to give his best when filming 'Wall Street'.

AceShowbiz - Oliver Stone was willing to get on Michael Douglas' bad side to help him win an Oscar for his role in "Wall Street".
The star took home the Best Actor accolade in 1988 for portraying money man Gordon Gekko in the film and he now admits he has Stone to thank, in part, because he pushed him to have a little more edge by insulting his acting.
"Oliver is a brilliant director and if you look at his entire work, male actors have probably done their best performance (with him)...," he told U.S. chat show "The Talk". "So, early on in the picture, he knocked on my door, he came into my trailer, and he said, 'How ya doing?' I said, 'OK'. He said, 'You alright?' I said, 'Yeah I think so, why?' He said, 'Because you look like you've never acted before in your life.' "
Douglas was taken back by Stone's criticism, but quickly realised what he was doing.
"I said, 'What?' He said, 'You doing drugs?' I said, 'No'," he added. "And he shook me up... and what he wanted - a little more meanness, a little more toughness, and he was willing for me to be at him for the rest of that movie just to have that little more edge and anger and, hey, I got an Oscar for it. Thank you Oliver Stone."
