During his appearance on 'Good Morning America', the actor also reveals that he spent time with the former senator at his home in order to get into character.

AceShowbiz - Actor Hugh Jackman really got a sense of how to portray former U.S. presidential candidate Gary Hart onscreen by staying with the ex-politician at his family home.

The "Logan" star's new political drama, "The Front Runner", chronicles the Senator's failed White House run in 1988, when his campaign was derailed by a scandalous love affair.

Australian Jackman admits he was initially a little apprehensive about tackling the biopic, but his concerns were eased after getting to spend quality time with Hart, who even opened his home to the actor.

"I've never played someone alive," Hugh told breakfast show "Good Morning America". "It's obviously true events, and knowing that that person, who I'm now friends with and I admire greatly, is gonna see the film, yeah, I was super nervous!".

"I went to stay with him before (we started filming)..., so I spent some time with him, and he's amazingly open and warm," Jackman continued, revealing Hart personally gave him the red carpet treatment. "He met me at the airport, curbside, drove me back to his house, and answered any questions I had."

Dabbling in politics for the Jason Reitman movie also made it clear to Jackman that he wouldn't be able to handle the media intrusion into his personal life, should he ever consider a run for office.

"I think I'm a bit too thin-skinned," he shared. "The moment you sign up for politics, first of all, immediately half of the planet hates you, and then a good percentage of them are literally trying to run you off the road!".
