Early Death on 'Sex and the City 3' Leads to Kim Cattrall's Refusal to Sign On?

During a chat with Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth, Origins podcast host spills on a surprising twist that will deviate the film’s focus away from the relationship between the four ladies.

AceShowbiz - Writers working on "Sex and the City 3" reportedly had plans to kill off a central character in the film.

In December 2016, it was reported that a script for a third and final movie following Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw had been signed off, a follow-up to 2010's "Sex and the City 2", another big screen continuation of the hit TV series.

While the third instalment is unlikely to get off the ground, Origins podcast host James Andrew Miller has now claimed that he has seen a script for the planned project and alleged that the reason why Kim Cattrall, who played PR guru Samantha Jones, has refused to sign on for the film was because Chris Noth's character Mr. Big - Bradshaw's love interest and eventual husband - was meant to die "relatively early on" in the screenplay.

"People close to Kim believe that the script didn't have a lot to offer the character of Samantha," he said during a chat with castmembers including Noth and Parker, which was released on Monday, November 19. "They point to the fact that it calls for Mr. Big to die of a heart attack in the shower, relatively early on in the film, making the remainder of the movie more about how Carrie recovers from Big's death than about the relationship between the four women."

Though Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, who played Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes, respectively, had signed on for the film, it was canned in September 2017 after Cattrall declined to return, sparking a feud between her and Parker.

During the podcast, the "Divorce" actress insisted that she had tried to change her co-star's mind on numerous occasions.

"We did negotiate through the process and ultimately the studio said, 'We can't meet those asks of hers. We're not able to do it. The economics don't make sense for us.' So then it's over. But that's not a character assassination. That's just the way business works," the 53-year-old noted.

In addition, Noth explained that he had not seen the script for the third movie, but he had heard the story was "superior" to the storylines for the first two films, which were penned and directed by Michael Patrick King.

"I really hate corny stuff and it could be because I'm a little bit of a cynic. Like, the whole thing at the end of the movie in the shoe closet - hated it," he said, recalling the moment in the 2008 film when Mr. Big proposes with a stiletto instead of a ring. "I just hate the cornball s**t and I thought it was just really sentimental and overly romantic without any feet in realism."
