AceShowbiz - Actor John Leguizamo has signed on to direct his next movie about a real-life high school chess team.

The star will take charge of "Critical Thinking", which will centre on the true story of a group of underprivileged children in Miami, Florida who go on to become the first team from an inner-city school to win the U.S. National Chess Championship.

Leguizamo will play their coach Mario Martinez, co-starring with Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Michael K. Williams, and others in the project, which will begin filming in Miami later this month.

This is the second film the actor has directed following 2003 TV movie "Undefeated".
