AceShowbiz - Another live-action "Star Wars" TV series is currently in the works for Disney Plus, Disney announced on Thursday, November 8. The new series will see Diego Luna reprising Rebel Alliance spy Cassian Andor, his character in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".

The new series is set to be a prequel series as it will follow Cassian's adventures during the formative years of the Rebellion, and before the events of the 2016 movie. It is described as a "rousing spy thriller [that] will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire."

The prequel series will start production next year while the release date remains unknown.

"Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me," Luna shared in a statement. "I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply."

The yet-untitled series marks the second live-action series being developed for Disney's upcoming streaming service. The studio is currently working on "The Mandalorian" which has Jon Favreau as the showrunner.

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebel" director Dave Filoni, who has been rumored to be one for quite some time, is among the directors tapped to help bring the series to life. He will direct the first episode of the 10-part series. Meanwhile, "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard ("Solemates"), Rick Famuyiwa ("Dope") and Deborah Chow ("Marvel's Jessica Jones") will direct additional episodes.

The official synopsis of the new series reads, "After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. 'The Mandalorian' is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."

"The Mandalorian" is set to stream on Disney's streaming service, which is set to launch in late 2019.
