The 'Good Girls Lie' rapper wants to take on the challenge because he doesn't feel safe under Trump's leadership due to his controversial immigration views and policies.

AceShowbiz - Rapper Akon is "seriously" considering running for U.S. president in 2020.

The "Locked Up" hitmaker is keen to compete against President Donald Trump, but he has some reservations because he wants to keep working on current projects including his Akon Lighting Africa solar panel initiative and Akoin cryptocurrency venture.

"I didn't want to just do it because I feel like I want to continue doing what I'm doing and hope that builds me enough momentum (for people) to say, 'You know what, if you run we'll support you,' " he tells Newsweek.

Akon wants to run against President Trump because he is angry about the U.S. leader's controversial immigration views and policies.

"I feel a lot more unsafe," the Missouri-born rapper, who is of Senegalese descent, says. "I feel unempowered. Honestly, I feel it's gonna be a fight."

"I feel like I should be always prepared for the unexpected. I feel very uncomfortable. And I feel a lot of Americans do; even some white Americans feel that way because they're watching (the) backlash of his decisions. It's not what's happening now, because it's clear it's creating a whole bunch of divide today. But I think tomorrow that impact is going to be so much more devastating."

He's not the only rapper considering a run for America's top office - Kanye West has previously stated he intends to run as a presidential hopeful in 2024.
