AceShowbiz - Here's the first official look at Taron Egerton as Elton John in "Rocketman". Paramount Pictures has taken to its Twitter account to share a picture of the "Kingsman: The Secret Service" star as the rock icon in the upcoming biopic.
Channeling young Elton, the Welsh actor shows his swag in an outlandish outfit, which consists of a gold jacket and winged platform boots, teamed with sunglasses. He sits on a couch inside what looks like a private jet.
Dubbed "an epic musical fantasy" and "uncensored human story," the movie will explore the "I Want Love" hitmaker's early years as a prodigy at London's Royal Academy of Music, through to his influential and enduring musical partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin.
Egerton previously said "Rocketman" wouldn't be a straightforward biopic. "It's a fantasy musical so it's actually his (John's) songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments," he explained. "He's not the only character that sings."
The 28-year-old actor took singing lessons to prepare for the movie. "I've recorded some songs. I've been doing singing lessons," he told Collider in May, before the filming began. "The next step is I need to think about choreography and trying to create some sort of semblance of a performance that is at least reminiscent of him."
Jamie Bell is tapped to star as Bernie Taupin, with Bryce Dallas Howard playing John's mother, Sheila Farebrother, and Richard Madden starring as John Reid, the singer's former lover and manager. Dexter Fletcher serves as director, with the script provided by Lee Hall.
John is producing along with his Rocket Pictures partner and husband David Furnish as well as "Kingsman: The Secret Service" filmmaker Matthew Vaughn. The first trailer for the movie is set to debut on Monday, October 1 at midnight. The film is slated to be released on May 31, 2019 in the United States.
