AceShowbiz - Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has been slapped with a lawsuit for allegedly going over budget on his 2014 "Sin City" sequel, "A Dame to Kill For".

Producer Sergei Bespalov claims the director's delays and a "pattern of misbehavior" cost the film's financiers $20 million (£15.6 million), and he is suing him for breach of contract, bad faith, and misrepresentation.

The producer is seeking unspecified damages and legal fees.

"When the dust settled, SC2 Productions ended up financing almost $15 million in cost overruns over the approved budget Rodriguez had agreed to, and was obligated to, work within when filming Sin City 2," the suit, filed on Monday, August 20 in California Superior Court, reads. "SC2 Productions should not have to shoulder the costs of Rodriguez's false representations, failure to perform and many egregious breaches of various contracts related to the film."

The Sin City sequel, starring Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba, raked in just under $40 million (GBP31 million) globally, according to Deadline.

Bespalov claims he brought in outside investors and now owes them $10 million (GBP7.8 million).

Rodriguez has yet to comment on the suit.
