The MTV show's executive producer reveals they're trying to find the right way to honor the late jazz legend.

AceShowbiz - Aretha Franklin is to be honoured at the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday, August 20.

The 76-year-old music icon lost her battle with advanced pancreatic cancer on Thursday, August 16, and her relatives have since outlined plans for a four-day celebration of her life, taking place at the end of the month.

Now the MTV show's executive producer, Jesse Ignjatovic, has revealed his team is "working on a lot of different options", and is trying to find "the right tone and the right artist" to properly pay tribute to the Queen of Soul during Monday's ceremony at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

He adds to The Associated Press: "Whether it's a performance or spoken - just something that's organic and done in a way that feels tonally right because it's Aretha Franklin".

The Respect hitmaker died at her home in Detroit, Michigan.

A public memorial and open casket viewing will be held at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, where Aretha was a frequent visitor, on 28 and 29 August.

A private funeral service will follow at the city's Greater Grace Temple on 31 August, when close family and friends will bid a final farewell to the legendary singer, and she will then be entombed at Woodlawn Cemetery.
