The former soccer star is helping Prince Harry promote the annual event held for injured and sick army personnel and veterans.

AceShowbiz - David Beckham is helping Prince Harry promote the 2018 Invictus Games in Australia by becoming an ambassador for the event.

The retired soccer icon has been friends with the British royal and his big brother William for several years, with David and his wife Victoria Beckham attending both of the princes' weddings, and now Harry has called on the sportsman to join him Down Under at his next sporting competition for injured and sick army personnel and veterans.

David shared the news of his appointment on Instagram on Friday, August 17, as he praised Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, for shining a light on the bravery of wounded warriors.

"I've been lucky enough to meet and work with many serving, veteran and wounded British armed forces personnel over the years and I've been humbled by the courage, resilience and spirit shown by each and every one of them," he wrote.

"So, I'm incredibly proud to announce I will be an Ambassador for this year's Invictus Games in Sydney."

David added, "The entire Invictus Games team, led by the Duke of Sussex, has achieved remarkable things in such a short space of time, using sport as a powerful force to rehabilitate and unite and I can't wait to be part of the energy and the excellence of the Games this year."

The Invictus Games, which were first launched in London in 2014, kick off on 20 October, and will be attended by both Prince Harry and his new wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

The appearance will be part of the couple's first official royal tour together following its wedding in May, and will also include stops in Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand.
