French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier is among those who wish the star a happy birthday.

AceShowbiz - Celebrities have flooded social media to wish music icon Madonna a happy 60th birthday on Thursday, August 16.

Stars from across music, film and television lined up to pass on their birthday wishes to the Queen of Pop, who at 60 is the best-selling female recording artist of all time with estimated sales of over 300 million.

French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, the creator of her trademark cone bra corsets, was one of the first to celebrate the milestone, sharing a photo of himself with the Hung Up hitmaker at the Met Gala in New York earlier this year.

"#JoyeuxAnniversaire to my long time friend, my everlasting muse and our Queen of Pop Madonna," he wrote alongside the image.

Singers Kylie Minogue, Lisa Stansfield and Savage Garden's Darren Hayes also sent their birthday wishes via Twitter.

"Happy birthday to Lady Madonna! I'm 14 years old, dancing and singing in my bedroom and she was just WOW!!! What a force and an inspiration. Enjoy your day Madonna!" the "Spinning Around" singer gushed, while Lisa wrote: "Happy 60th birthday your Madgesty. You've shown us and taught us more than a thing or two over the years. Long may you reign."

"I wouldn't be who I am without @Madonna," Darren added, supplying a list of 12 reasons why he loves Madonna.

British comedian David Walliams chose to send his birthday wishes by way of a black-and-white photo of the icon and a Shakespeare quote, writing: "Happy 60th Birthday Madonna. You have haunted my dreams since I was 13. Shakespeare wrote about Cleopatra, 'Age cannot wither her, not custom stale her infinite variety'. He could have been writing about you."

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, French singer and AIDS activist Line Renaud and American radio host Andy Cohen were also among those celebrating the star on her special day, while streaming service Deezer revealed her most popular hits in her honour, with 1983 hit Holiday coming out on top.

And if any forgot her birthday, the "Vogue" singer was on hand to remind her fans with an image of herself holding up a banner, which read "The Queen" in English and Arabic. "In case someone forgot!" she quipped to her 10.6 million Instagram followers underneath the snap.
