'I loved them so much I decided to wear it in the video with my throwback Adidas,' the superstar talks about the tracksuit.

AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lopez "shocked everyone" on the set of her I'm Real (Remix) music video by shunning designer outfits to model a pink sweatsuit by a then "little-known" company named Juicy Couture.

The superstar is reminiscing about her old hits as she counts down to the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, where she will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and she took to Instagram late on Tuesday, August 14 to share a fun fact about one of the outfits she wore for the 2001 promo - a pink velour sweatsuit top and shorts.

Posting a clip of her collaboration with rapper Ja Rule, J.Lo revealed she opted for a more low-key look for scenes of the pair dancing on a basketball court, because she wanted the footage to reflect the "real" Jenny from the Block.

"I did this remix with Ja Rule - everyone went crazy for the song so we decided to shoot a video for it. We shot it in one day," she recalled in the caption.

"The stylists brought me all this fancy couture from all the big designers," Jennifer continued. "But this little known company Juicy sent these sweatsuits for me to chill and hang out in...I loved them so much I decided to wear it in the video with my throwback Adidas (sneakers) and my nameplate (necklace) and a bun. I shocked everyone when I decided to wear it!".

6️⃣ days till #VMAs...“I’m Real”...this was another remix that we did, we had already shot the first video but then I did this remix with Ja Rule - everyone went crazy for the song so we decided to shoot a video for it. We shot it in one day. The stylists brought me all this fancy couture from all the big designers. But this little known company Juicy sent these sweatsuits for me to chill and hang out in...I loved them so much I decided to wear it in the video with my throwback Adidas and my nameplate and a bun. I shocked everyone when I decided to wear it! It seemed fitting since the song is called “I’m Real”, so I decided to be ME!!#mtv #videovanguard #2001

J.Lo's stylish-but-casual look helped to spark a fashion trend, and the Juicy Couture velour outfits quickly became all the rage.

"It seemed fitting since the song is called 'I'm Real', so I decided to be ME!!" she added.

The singer/actress, who is known for her fashion-forward style, is sure to turn heads at the MTV VMAs on Monday, August 20, when she hits the red carpet at Radio City Music Hall in her native New York.

She will also perform prior to collecting the Video Vanguard prize, which is presented to artists who have had a huge impact on the music industry.

Previous honourees include Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Britney Spears, and last year's (17) recipient, Pink.
