The 'Parks and Recreation' star says that he is very excited about his role in the upcoming film adaptation.

AceShowbiz - Ben Schwartz has been tapped to voice Sonic in Paramount Pictures' "Sonic the Hedgehog". The "Parks and Recreation" actor seemed to be really happy with his role when he confirmed the news, which was first reported by Variety, on August 8. He also claimed that he loved the iconic video game character so much.

"I. LOVE. 90S. BLUE. ICONIC. CHARACTERS. I am beyond excited about this movie," the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star wrote on his Twitter account before adding, "It's gonna be amazing. I have been training by running, wagging my finger and impatiently tapping my foot. GOTTA GO FAST!"

Voicing a character is not something new to Schwartz as he has lent his voice for Dewey Duck on Disney Channel's reboot of "Duck Tales". The 36-year-old actor also voiced Leonardo on Nickelodeon's animated series "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".

In the upcoming live-action film, the actor and comedian will be joined by James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Jim Carrey. Mardsen, who is known for his role in "Superman Returns", will play another lead role, but there is still no information about what lead role he will be playing. Carrey will portray villainous Dr. Robotnik. "Love, Simon" actress Natasha Rothwell also joins the cast.

The project will be directed by Jeff Fowler, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2005 for his work on "Gopher Broke". "Deadpool" director Tim Miller and Toby Ascher will serve as executive producers, while Neal H. Moritz, whose credits include "Prison Break", "I Am Legend" and "Passengers", is producing the film.

"Sonic the Hedgehog", which is based on Sega's video game franchise, was previously handled by Sony before the studio gave the project to Paramount Pictures in October 2017. The game revolves around Sonic, an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog with supersonic speed power. Sonic's main mission is to stop Dr. Ivo Robotnik a.k.a. Eggman, who wants to take over the world by using the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic is not alone though, as he is accompanied by his friends Tails, Amy and Knuckles.

"Sonic the Hedgehog" is set to be released in U.S. theaters on November 15, 2019.
