The charity ball will feature a performance from Missy Elliott and a multi-course dinner overseen by Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn among others.

AceShowbiz - Pharrell Williams is to host his own charity gala in Brooklyn, New York to raise funds for youth arts education.

The 45-year-old has teamed up with executives at American Express, where he is a creative director for their Platinum membership scheme, to organise the exclusive bash at the Brooklyn Museum.

Pharrell's event, which he has dubbed the "Yellow Ball" as he believes this is the colour of creativity, will feature a performance from Missy Elliott, a multi-course dinner overseen by Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn and "art experiences" created by artist and set designer Daniel Arsham.

Announcing his plans to host the ball, which will raise funds for Young Audiences Arts for Learning, America's largest arts-in-education network, the Happy Singer told Billboard.com that it was a cause close to his heart.

"I want all children to have access to that kind of creative growth, access and support," he explained. "All kids, not just my own. There's a lot of variables in a situation as to why something falls apart, but there's only one scenario where it holds together, and that's when all the variables are there."

U.S. politicians have recently been considering cutting the funding of the National Endowment for the Arts, the agency that funds creative projects, and dad-of-four Pharrell is hopeful events like his ball could alleviate the pressure of cuts.

"A lot of decisions that are being made are having a domino effect on programs like the (NEA)," he added. "And while we might not like that, the powers that be are the powers that be, but we are still the people and we can do things to help the people with the resources that we have access to."

Tickets for the event, which will take place on September 10, are only available to American Express Platinum cardholders.
