AceShowbiz - Britney Spears has been accused of using her Pride gig in Brighton, England as a tool to promote her perfume.

The "Toxic" singer performed at the event, the U.K.'s biggest celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community, on Saturday, August 04.

The day after the concert she took to Twitter to thank fans for attending, but included a sneaky bit of promotion for her gender-neutral fragrance, My Prerogative - which was also given out free to fans on scented wristbands.

She wrote: "Loved seeing so many people out celebrating diversity and inclusion for #pride here in the UK! Having the freedom to be who you want to be is so important, which is why we made Prerogative, a fragrance for ALL!! Check it out exclusively at @BootsUK #MyPrerogative."

Her tweet didn't sit well with some of the LGBTQ community, however, including editors at Attitude magazine who responded by calling her post "terrible" in a message sent via their Twitter account.

Another irate tweeter added: "All those years fighting oppression, for Britney to come along and turn it into a commercial for perfume. What a d**k."

Other fans described the move as "tacky", although some saw the funny side of her attempt to plug her perfume.

"Only Britney is allowed to do a tweet about Pride and inclusion then use it to flog perfume ok," one admirer wrote, while another added, "Britney doing a gig at pride just to promote a perfume is the most Britney thing I've heard all week."

The star has also released a special Pride edition of another fragrance, Fantasy, with $1.30 (£1) of each $53 (£40) bottle going to support U.S. media monitoring group GLAAD, formerly the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

Britney's show delighted fans, although she reportedly forgot where she was performing and had to ask her dancer, before giving a shout out to Brighton Pride.

Many concertgoers complained that they were left stranded as train services taking them to and from the gig were inadequate. In response to complaints of overcrowding, Pride organisers told NME.com they were "appalled" bosses at the Govia Thameslink Railway failed to put on sufficient trains, claiming they had put Pride attendees' "safety in jeopardy".
