The 'Game of Thrones' star is also planning to produce the movie, with Patrick Ness penning the script.

AceShowbiz - Actor Peter Dinklage has reportedly signed on to star as fairy tale character Rumpelstiltskin on the big screen.

Patrick Ness has been hired to write the script, while the Game of Thrones star is also planning to produce the project, according to Variety.com.

Details about the plot are being kept under wraps, but the character originated in a Brothers Grimm tale in 1812 and centres on a miller who lies to the king about his daughter's ability to spin straw into gold, leading the ruler to imprison her and force her to prove her skill or face death.

An imp-like creature named Rumpelstiltskin comes to her rescue by offering to perform the magical task in exchange for the girl's necklace, but the agreement ends up costing her much more than she had bargained for.

Rumpelstiltskin has already been featured in a number of TV shows and films, including Once Upon a Time, Grimm, and The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm.
