Danai Gurira seemingly hints at the death of Rick Grimes as she talks about the loss that other characters would deal with in the upcoming season.

AceShowbiz - Will season 9 of "The Walking Dead" feature the death of one of its major characters? Star Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on the AMC zombie apocalypse series, seemingly hinted at the death of Rick Grimes as she talked about the loss that other characters would deal with following the exit of Andrew Lincoln after season 9.

"There's no replacing him, there's no just getting over it. It is something that, you know, of course our characters are dealing with as we deal with it," Danai said to EW at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend.

The actress added, "So it's kind of--we're in very clear emotional synchronicity with our characters right now, because the loss is felt by them and by us. But, you know, the beauty is that we're family, and he created the TWD family with a few other folks, and so we get to still have this family and that's a beautiful thing."

What Danai said made fans wonder if Andrew's departure from the show would mean the death of his character. However, Andrew suggested that Rick might not be killed off in the upcoming season. "Well, I think [Morgan depicter] Lennie James is a good example of leaving without dying," he said. "There's also the other way, but I won't tell you which one. I mean, I prefer the Lennie James of it all, but I think what we have in store this season is truly remarkable and I'm very, very proud of the work that we've done."

In most cases, characters leaving "The Walking Dead" often ends in death, but a character exiting the show while still being alive is not entirely unprecedented. The show left Heath's (Corey Hawkins) fate open-ended since his disappearance back in season 7.

It is speculated that Rick's departure may have something to do with the helicopter that is located suspiciously near him in the first season 9 poster. The helicopter is also briefly glimpsed in the previously-released season 9 trailer. Another speculation of how Rick will be written off is that Daryl will form a traveling welcome-party in search of other survivors around Ohio and Pennsylvania. However, Rick opts to stay behind.

"The Walking Dead" season 9 will premiere on Sunday, October 7 on AMC.
