The 'Bridge of Spies' actor lands a lead role in the movie based on J.M. Coetzee's 1980 novel of the same title.

AceShowbiz - Actor Mark Rylance has landed the starring role in the film adaptation of J.M. Coetzee's 1980 novel "Waiting For The Barbarians".
The "Bridge of Spies" star will portray a magistrate in the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project will be directed by Ciro Guerra and principal photography is scheduled to begin in Europe and North America later this year.
The film centres on Rylance's character, who is a loyal servant of 'the Empire' in a small frontier town. However, after he learns about the cruel treatment of prisoners of war, who are considered "barbarians", he rebels against the regime.
"There is no one better suited or better equipped than Mark Rylance for a role as complex as that of the magistrate in waiting for the barbarians," producer Andrea Iervolino says. "The story is his to own and bring to life in a way that only he can."
