AceShowbiz - Late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was worth only $1.21 million (£914,000) when he died, according to new legal documents.

The TV personality took his own life while staying in a hotel in Kaysersberg, France, during filming for his CNN travel show Parts Unknown on 8 June, and subsequent reports estimated he had a $16 million (£12 million) fortune.

However, new legal documents filed in Manhattan Surrogate's Court on Thursday, July 05, revealed that he was worth just $1.21 million.

His assets include $425,000 (£321,000) in "cash and savings," $35,000 (£26,000) in a brokerage account, $250,000 (£189,000) in "personal property," and $500,000 (£378,000) in "intangible property including royalties and residuals," according to court papers obtained by the New York Daily News and New York Post's Page Six. The filing also indicate a $1 million (£755,000) mortgage liability for an unspecified property, which could be the New York apartment Bourdain bought his then-wife Ottavia Busia in 2014.

In the will, the chef left the majority of his money to his only child, 11-year-old daughter Ariane Bourdain, and appointed his estranged wife, Ariane's mother Ottavia, as the executor of his estate.

A guardian will be appointed by the court to protect Ariane's interests in the estate as she is a minor. If his daughter had died before him, the money would have gone to her nanny, Myra Quizon.

Bourdain also gave his "accumulated frequent flier miles" to his estranged wife, and asked her to "dispose of (them) in accordance with what (she) believes to have been my wishes". He gave the same instructions for his cars, furniture, books, clothing and other household items.

Bourdain, 61, wrote the will in 2016, shortly before he separated from his wife, who he married in 2007. At the time of his death, their divorce had not been finalised and the chef had been dating Italian actress Asia Argento, who he met while filming Parts Unknown.
