AceShowbiz - "Star Wars" actor Ahmed Best has returned to the place where he almost ended his life as the backlash over his character Jar Jar Binks became too much.

Critics and "Star Wars" fans alike hated the character in the film franchise prequels "The Phantom Menace", "Attack of the Clones", and "Revenge of the Sith", and turned on the actor behind the mask for playing Jar Jar, and now, almost 20 years after the release of the film, Ahmed has posted a photo of himself and his son overlooking New York Harbor on Twitter, revealing that was the site where he once contemplated suicide.

The 44 year old added the caption: "20 years next year I faced a media backlash that still affects my career today. This was the place I almost ended my life. It's still hard to talk about."

He added: "I survived and now this little guy is my gift for survival."

In a Wired interview last year, Best revealed he felt like a success and a failure at the same time as his "Star Wars" career took off as the annoying character, but added, "I was staring at the end of my career before it started.

"There were a lot of tears, there was a lot of pain, there was a lot of s**t I had to deal with. Everybody else went on. Everybody else worked. Everybody else was accepted by the zeitgeist... I didn't get another chance after Jar Jar."

He's not the only "Star Wars" actor to be attacked by fans - Kelly Marie Tran and Daisy Ridley both quit Instagram after they were targeted by trolls who disapproved of their casting and characters. Tran received racially charged backlash after becoming Star Wars' first Asian lead in "The Last Jedi".
