The Oscar-winning actor reportedly will play an Enlish lord in a world where the watchmen are treated as outlaws.

AceShowbiz - Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Damon Lindelof's Watchmen adaptation.

The great Brit will take on a leading role in the HBO pilot, inspired by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons iconic comic book series. He joins previously cast Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, and Louis Gossett, Jr.

Reports suggest Oscar-winner Irons will play an Enlish lord in a world, where the Watchmen superheroes are treated as outlaws.

Lindelof, who wrote the script and will executive produces the pilot with director Nicole Kassell, recently told Deadline the project will not be an accurate adaptation of the 12 issues of the comic but an original story inspired by them.

This won't be Irons' first major TV series role - he also starred in The Borgias.
