AceShowbiz - The Los Angeles County District Attorney has officially closed the sexual assault case against actor Scott Baio.
The Happy Days star hit headlines earlier this year after his former TV co-star Nicole Eggert claimed he sexually molested her on multiple occasions on the set of their 1980s sitcom Charles in Charge.
The actress alleged she was a minor at the time, but Baio maintained he only had sex with Eggert once, after she turned 18, and insisted it was all consensual.
Prosecutors have been reviewing the case, but last month, an official representing the District Attorney reportedly told Eggert that although he found her claims "credible", they wouldn't be able to take criminal action as the statute of limitations governing such allegations had run out.
Now the D.A. has formally shut down the investigation, citing the expiration of the statute of limitations at the time of the alleged incidents, when victims had just three years to report complaints to police.
Baio's representative previously hinted at civil action against Eggert, vowing to hold her "accountable for her untrue and defamatory claims".
