The 'Black Panther' star shares in a new interview that her first experience wearing makeup wasn't a positive one.

AceShowbiz - Lupita Nyong'o cried the first time she wore foundation because the product was the wrong colour.

The "Black Panther" actress has become somewhat of a style chameleon, often experimenting with her make-up and hairstyles when she steps out at red carpet events.

However, Lupita has now shared that her first experience with wearing cosmetics wasn't a positive one.

"I wasn't allowed to wear make-up growing up, but when I was about 18, my mother let my aunt give me a makeover," she told U.S. InStyle magazine. "She had lighter skin than me and didn't have my foundation shade. I actually don't remember my shade existing, or at least I didn't see it. She applied this lighter foundation to my face and just caked it on. I cried."

Lupita added that she was anticipating a makeover like in the movies but the end result was "far from that".

But since making a name for herself in Hollywood and landing a gig as a Lancome brand ambassador in 2014, the star has learned exactly what base products work for her.

"I love Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear because it's light and looks natural, like skin. I used it for Black Panther; it works for every day and for when I'm on camera," the 35-year-old said.

The star is also a fan of Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Serum and the French brand's L'Absolu Rouge lipstick in Impertinente, a fuchsia shade.

And she always switches-up her make-up kit to match the season.

"I have to go deeper with my foundation shade in the summer, when my skin gets darker, and I use sunscreen, aloe vera, calendula - all the things that protect my skin from sunburn," she added.
