'Because with your girlfriend and stuff, there's expectations,' the 19-year-old reasons.

AceShowbiz - Jaden Smith has insisted his school prom was a more stressful experience than the Met Gala.

As the son of A-list couple Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, the 19-year-old is no stranger to the company of Hollywood stars. And having mingled alongside some of the world's most famous faces including; Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez at the prestigious New York event, Jaden has concluded that the Met Gala was a relatively relaxed affair compared to his high school dance.

"Actual prom was more stressful," he explained in an interview with W magazine. "I was more stressed at actual prom. Because with your girlfriend and stuff, there's expectations - prom is supposed to be like this and boyfriends are supposed to act like this. At the Met, I was just a free bird and really living my best life. But prom was really stressful. I had to really sharpen up for prom."

The rapper and singer, who attended prom with actress girlfriend Odessa Adlon, brought an unusual prop with him when he attended the Met Gala in May, namely a framed golden copy of his single "Icon". However, Jaden hadn't planned to take the eye-catching red carpet accessory, but couldn't resist when it arrived at his house on the day of the bash.

"It was totally spur of the moment," he smiled. "I told everyone I was bringing it. I mean, I didn't tell anyone from the Met, but everyone on my team knew."

The songwriter also recently announced he is hoping to release his second album next January, and believes the record's content has been influenced by the New York recording studio he's been working in.

"I've been recording here in New York and it is very rap heavy. It's a lot of raps," the "Nashville" star shared. "L.A. is more slow, chiller, more colourful. New York is darker and faster."
