Johns is stepping down from his post as president and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment to launch his own production company, Mad Ghost Productions, which will develop the Green Lantern Corps movie.

AceShowbiz - Geoff Johns is set to write "Green Lantern Corps". It was announced on Monday, June 11 that Johns is stepping down from his position as president and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment and would be replaced by current DC publisher Jim Lee.
But Johns is not stepping away from the DC comic book world altogether. As explained by The Hollywood Reporter, the 45-year-old screenwriter left his post to enter into an exclusive writer-producer deal with Warner Bros. and DC.
And the first project that he will develop under the exclusive deal is the Green Lantern Corps movie. He will produce the movie under his newly-launched production company, Mad Ghost Productions.
An official website of the company lists "Green Lantern Corps", "Wonder Woman 2", "Shazam!" and "Aquaman" as the current projects under the banner. Meanwhile, a description of "Green Lantern Corps" reveals that the movie will feature at least two main characters from the comic book, Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
"Green Lantern Corps" has been long in development since 2015, following the box office and critical failure of the 2011 movie "Green Lantern" starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan a.k.a. the titular superhero. It is currently scheduled for a July 24, 2020 release in the United States, but that may change now that Johns is in charge of it and may need to start from the beginning.
Reports swirled earlier this year that Tom Cruise was eyed as the new Green Lantern, with "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" and "Jack Reacher" director Christopher McQuarrie being eyed to serve behind the lens. However, no other details, including the cast and director, are confirmed as of now.
