AceShowbiz - Actress Sara Gilbert stands by ABC network bosses' decision to cancel her newly-revived show "Roseanne".

The reboot of the sitcom, which also starred John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, was cancelled last week (ends June 01), after star and creator Roseanne Barr posted a racist tweet, in which she suggested former aide to President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, looked like an ape.

Despite tweeting an apology, it was later announced that the show would not return for a second season.

Following Roseanne's tweet, Sara, who served as an executive producer on the series, spoke out about the controversy, calling the post "abhorrent", and attacking her boss. She has now addressed the show's fate on her U.S. chat show "The Talk".

"In addition to my statement, I would like to say this has been a very difficult week," she said on Monday, June 04. "A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say I'm proud of the show we made. This show has always been about diversity, love and inclusion. And it's sad to see it end in this way.

Roseanne has yet to comment on Sara's new statement, but she previously accused her TV daughter of throwing her "under the bus" in a Twitter statement, before later insisting she had forgiven Gilbert.

Meanwhile, reports suggest ABC executives are open to a "Roseanne" spin-off centering on Gilbert's character, Darlene, and her children.
